FARM KIDS SA STARTS OFF WITH A BANG

Princess – on Sunday 25th November 2018, a beautiful summer’s day, the West rand came to life. At what was the inaugural event at SA Lifestyle Village, Farm Kids SA was officially opened by renowned country singer Jody Wayne. After weeks of intense work the owners of SA Lifestyle Village, Renate and Strini Govender together with Faye Potgieter from West rand Pet & Bird Farm were thrilled to be able to show the fruits of their labour to the West Rand community. This initiative was made possible by volunteers from the local community who were presented with gifts and certificates of recognition on the day. FarmKids SA’s vision is to contribute to the development of children and families in the local community and beyond, through exposure to agriculture and farming in a city environment. The concept allows children and adults alike to experience a farming environment first hand, by working in a small garden as well as feeding and learning about the animals.
Their aim is to educate children on the benefits of growing their own food and plants and to engage children in activities which broaden their horizons, while offering a tranquil environment for all visitors to FarmKids SA, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Amid much excitement from the children, Jody Wayne cut the ribbon and Farm Kids SA was opened to the public. Ernest Visser, entertainer and singer, wasted no time engaging the crowd with a variety of toe tapping music. Performances by Theresa, Nadine Mare and Renee kept the crowd entertained while the children participated in a variety of activities of which the highlight was the Treasure hunt. Westranders of all ages came out to see the legendary Jody Wayne who didn’t disappoint and thrilled his fans with both his music and photo opportunities. There was an array of goodies on display in the Village flea market including Gladiators Superstore who sponsored the prizes for the Treasure Hunt. Representatives from Hirsch were also there to enjoy the day as another one of the main sponsors. The lucky draw which was made possible by Hirsch will take place on the 17th December 2018 at SA Lifestyle Villages first annual Christmas market.
Special thanks to QRS Medical Services and Dowry Security who kept a watchful eye over the crowds.
In addition to the entertainment all of the shops within SA Lifestyle Village were open for business. Re:Treat Cafe was there to keep the tummies full with the scrumptious food that was on offer, you could get your car sparkling clean at Village Car Wash, while browsing through the homewares at Chilli Tree. The Pop Up shop had great gifts for everyone and if clothes are your sin of choice Famwear has you covered at affordable prices. Not to forget the Family Supermarket which is always open for last minute bits and pieces and Restart IT for all your phone and internet needs.
The teams from The Hobby Garden nursery and Westrand Bird Farm were on hand to give advice to customers about their pets and their gardens. Along with SA Lifestyle Village centre management, they were primarily responsible for the makeover which visitors experienced in the newly opened Farm Kids SA. Not long after Jody Wayne wowed the crowd with his performance the heavens opened and blessed Farm Kids SA with much needed rain. This brought what was a truly fun filled day to a natural close.
