9th day Fund Raiser
Please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself and The 9th Day Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming
Centre to you. I started my rescue days at our local SPCA by donating goods; I then joined the
committee and shortly thereafter became chairlady. Whilst valuable experience was gained, I had ideas
of my own and so The 9th Day was established.
January 2015, I started the 9th Day Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming Centre and registered as a NPC in
April 2015. We mainly focus on stray animals – the neglected, sick, broken souls that live in fields, walk
the streets, going through rubbish bins for food. We give them the vet care they need, teach them to
trust, mend their broken souls and find them forever homes. All our animals are vaccinated, dewormed,
microchipped and sterilized. Why the name “The 9th Day”? Because ”on the 9th Day God made a dog“.
Our name and logo are symbolic of what we believe in and why we do what we do – unconditional,
eternal love for 4 legged children no matter what breed, age, sex or condition they are in. Please take a
few minutes to watch our video https://youtu.be/JCAwvwcWZgE
Although we are not “area bound” we have been inundated with strays since the Krugersdorp SPCA
closed in April 2015. We are a pro-life rescue centre with no corporate sponsors and rely purely on
donations from the public. Private vets assist us, thankfully with welfare rates, most of the strays we
rescue are in dire need of vet care. Our monthly expenses average between R70,000 and R80,000: Food
±R1 000 per day; wages (R14 000 for 4 staff members, I don’t receive any remuneration); rental (R8
000); vet bills minimum R15 000; travelling expenses R3 000.
We welcome sponsors who can donate monthly towards our running costs. Currently, each month is a
financial battle, and our future often appears bleak. We rent our premises, it is our dream to own our
property one day, it will make our future more secure. Another dream is to have our own clinic, this will
enable us to assist more animals in need. We have on average 160 animals that we care for monthly.
Since our inception, we are proud to inform you that we have managed to successfully re-home ±320
animals. We are currently the only pro-life rescue organisation in the Krugersdorp and Roodepoort areas
that focus mainly on stray animals.
We hold outreaches on a regular basis in Burgershoop, educating owners and assisting them with
sterilizing, vaccinating and vet care for their animals. We are hoping to expand soon to Munsieville and
nearby informal settlements/impoverished areas.
